Space infection refers to infection affecting the potential spaces and fascial planes of the maxillofacial region. It is often caused due to odontogenic infection, trauma, and lymphadenitis. Based on the mode of involvement, they are classified as primary spaces and secondary spaces. The symptoms are trismus, pain, dysphagia, and airway obstruction. It is treated by taking high-dose antibiotics, and in some cases, surgical drainage is required.
