Spinal cord compression occurs when a mass places pressure on the cord. The mass can be a tumor or a bone fragment. Spinal cord compression can occur anywhere along the spinal cord, from the neck to the lower spine. Some of the symptoms of spinal cord compression include severe pain, weakness in the legs, numbness in the back of the legs, and loss of bowel and bladder control.
