A spirometry test is done to diagnose the functioning of the lungs. It works by measuring the airflow inhaled in and exhaled outside the lungs. It is performed by making the patient sit and breathe in a small machine called a spirometer. It is used to diagnose COPD (chronic pulmonary disease), asthma, and other conditions affecting the lungs.
