Sports hernia or athletic pubalgia is a painful condition characterized by pain in the groin area due to soft tissue injury. Unlike traditional hernia, sports hernia occurs due to strain or tear of any soft tissues in the lower abdominal area, especially the tendons that attach the oblique muscles to the pubic bone are vulnerable. Common symptoms of sports hernia include extreme pain in the groin area that gets better with rest and recur on doing strenuous physical activities. Treatment of sports hernia includes rest, physiotherapy, and anti-inflammatory medicines. In certain cases, the condition may require surgical treatment.
