Synovitis or synovial inflammation refers to inflammation of the synovium, the membrane that lines the joints. Synovitis is a major problem in medical conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile arthritis, lupus, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatic fever, tuberculosis, or gout. In synovitis, the joint appears swollen, puffy, painful and inflamed. Synovitis is often treated with anti-inflammatory drugs and corticosteroids.
