Tenofovir is an antiviral drug that is used to treat HIV. This drug belongs to the class of antiretroviral drugs known as nucleotide analog reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NtRTIs). It is not a cure for HIV or AIDS but helps to treat the symptoms. Tenofovir can be given for both adults and children who are above 2 years and weigh more than 10 kilograms.
