Medical Conditions - Tracheostomy

Tracheostomy is a procedure where an opening is created in the front of the neck. A tube is inserted through the trachea for breathing. If there is a need, it can be connected to an oxygen supply, and a breathing machine called a ventilator. It is usually done to bypass obstructed airways, clear secretions in the airway, and provide oxygen to the lungs.
