Uric acid is a waste product generated in the body due to digestion and absorption of food. It is produced when the body breaks down chemicals called purines. It gets dissolved in the blood and excreted through the kidneys. High uric acid levels occur in the body when uric acid is not eliminated by kidneys efficiently. It occurs due to intake of rich foods, being overweight, diabetes, and taking diuretics. It is reduced by losing weight, avoiding sugar and alcohol, and reducing intake of purine-rich foods.
