Vulvovaginitis refers to the inflammation of the vulva and the vagina. The main cause of vulvovaginitis is bacteria. The other causes include sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), parasites, and exposure to certain chemical irritants and allergens. A few symptoms of vulvovaginitis include irritation and itching in the genital area, discomfort while urinating, and increased vaginal discharge.
