Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My partner is eight weeks pregnant, and she wants to undergo the abortion process, but the main problem is that we are unmarried, and we are 20 years old.
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
This is stressful, especially being unmarried and young. But medically speaking, at eight weeks pregnant, abortion is still early and generally safe when done properly.
First, being unmarried does not prevent someone from getting an abortion in many countries. The law depends on where you live. Tell me your country, and I can explain the legal situation clearly. At eight weeks, there are two main options:
1. Medical abortion (pills) uses Mifepristone and Misoprostol, and is usually used up to nine to 10 weeks. It causes heavy bleeding and cramps, similar to a strong period or miscarriage. It is very effective in early pregnancy.
2. Surgical abortion (vacuum aspiration): Quick procedure at a clinic. Usually finished in 10 to 15 minutes. Bleeding is typically lighter afterwards compared to pills.
Since you mentioned, she feels weak and gets tired. If she is already anemic (low blood level), that matters. Abortion pills cause heavier bleeding, so she should get her hemoglobin checked first. Do not buy random pills from a pharmacy without proper guidance. The wrong dose can cause incomplete abortion or heavy bleeding.
She needs:
Ultrasound to confirm eight weeks.
Blood group test.
Hemoglobin test.
Doctor consultation.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
