Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My wife's periods started around the beginning of last month, but she did not have her periods this month. Then, we did a test at home using a pregnancy test kit, and the result was positive. After that, we decided that we could not afford a child so soon. For this, we took the Clear Kit tablet two days back. Even after that, the bleeding has not started yet. So, please tell me what we should do now.
Please suggest.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
1. Stay calm, but act promptly. Medical abortion (Clear Kit) typically requires two medications: Mifepristone (first pill) followed by Misoprostol (second set of pills) 24 to 48 hours later. If your wife took only the first pill (Mifepristone), bleeding usually starts after taking the second pill (Misoprostol). If she has not taken the second dose yet, follow the kit’s instructions carefully and under the guidance of a gynecologist.
2. If she took both doses and still there is no bleeding, this can happen in rare cases. The pregnancy may still be ongoing, or the medication might not have worked. Visit a gynecologist or clinic immediately for an ultrasound to check if the pregnancy has ended or if there is an ectopic pregnancy (a serious condition requiring urgent care).
3. Do not take extra pills. Avoid repeating the dose without medical guidance, as this can cause complications.
4. Watch for warning signs such as severe pain, heavy bleeding (soaking two pads per hour), fever, or dizziness requiring emergency care.
5. The next steps to be followed are to consult a doctor as soon as possible, even if there are no symptoms. A blood test or ultrasound will confirm if the abortion was successful. If the pregnancy continues, you need guidance on safe options.
Important:
Medical abortion is safest when monitored by a healthcare provider. Please prioritize seeing a doctor to ensure your wife’s health and safety. You are not alone. Many couples face this situation, and doctors are there to help without judgment.
I hope this answers your query.
Let me know if I need to assist you further.
Thank you.
