Why do I still have scars after micro-needling?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I want to ask you about my skin, specifically regarding post-acne scarring. I have completed three sessions of chemical peels, which gave good results. I have not had any acne since the chemical peels. After that, I switched to microneedling and have had only one session so far, but I still have scars.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I am very sorry about your medical condition, and I am glad that you are paying attention to changes in your body system. But do not worry, I am here to take care of you. It is great to hear that your acne has cleared up after the chemical peel sessions; that is a big win.
Now, regarding your post-acne scars:
Micro-needling is a good next step after chemical peels, especially for improving atrophic scars (like icepick, boxcar, or rolling scars). However, one session is usually not enough to see visible changes in most types of acne scars. Typically, you need three to six sessions (spaced four to six weeks apart) for noticeable improvement.
Since you have only done one microneedling session, it is too early to judge the final results. Also:
Types of scars matter: Microneedling works best on rolling and shallow boxcar scars. Icepick scars may need TCA CROSS (trichloroacetic acid chemical reconstruction of skin scars) or laser.
If your skin tolerated peels and microneedling well, that is a good sign for continued treatments.
Combining microneedling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or growth factors can boost results.
I hope this helps. Please follow up if you have any further concerns.
