How can I manage a severe headache on my left side?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 23-year-old male suffering from a severe headache on the left side of my forehead. It is probably due to sinusitis. How can I stop it?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
All the symptoms you have mentioned suggest that you have acute sinusitis. It is quite a common condition, and it is nothing but inflammation of your paranasal sinuses, which are air-filled cavities in your face. This can cause pressure, heaviness, and pain over the forehead, cheeks, or around the eyes, especially when bending forward.
As first-line management, I suggest you follow these instructions:
-
You can take a short course of antibiotics for five to seven days. I suggest Moxclav (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid) 625 mg twice a day for five days.
-
If you have pain, take simple analgesics like Ibuprofen or Paracetamol.
-
I suggest you take antihistamines like Cetirizine 10 mg or Levocetirizine 5 mg for symptomatic relief.
-
Steam inhalation and nasal decongestants like Oxymetazoline would be helpful if you have a blocked nose.
Look for dental caries or a deviated nasal septum, which are common causes of recurrent sinusitis. If you have recurrent attacks of sinusitis, consult an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist and get a CT (computed tomography) scan done.
Hope this helps.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
