Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was walking through a field, and the day after a rash came up with redness on my legs. It was itchy, and when I got in the bath, it stung. It is red on my legs and when I press, it turns white and then back to red. I have not been in contact with any soaps or anything like that after that time. What to do?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen your query and understood your concern.

I went through your images (the attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).

It seems you have allergic contact dermatitis or air-borne contact dermatitis. Allergic contact dermatitis may occur due to footwear, cosmetics, hair dyes, pollens, parthenium grass in surrounding fields, dust or mites, etc.

Pollen and other air-borne allergens mainly affect the face, eyes, ‘V’ of the neck and other uncovered areas of the body besides other body parts. Air-borne contact dermatitis (ABCD) is the name given to this group of dermatitis.

The diagnosis of allergic contact dermatitis can be established by doing a ‘patch’ test, in which patches of suspected allergens in appropriate concentrations are put on the nonhairy skin of the back or arms, and readings are taken after 48 to 72 hours.

Positive patch test reaction is indicated by redness, fluid-filled eruptions, or ulceration at the site of the test. A topical soothing lotion like Calamine (anti-inflammatory) would help you symptomatically but you may require systemic steroids for a short duration.

I suggest you consult a specialist doctor and take medications with their consent.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and regards.
