Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 23-year-old daughter has had asthma since college, but the last few weeks, it has been acting up a lot. She has been coughing more at night and using her inhaler almost daily now. Before this, it was under control, but not anymore.
We changed her room and even got an air purifier, but it is still not better. She is missing work, and her sleep is all messed up. Her regular medicines are not working like before.
Could it be the change in weather or maybe stress? Do we need a stronger inhaler or maybe a different treatment? Is this common after having mild asthma for a few years? Should we worry about long term damage if it flares this often? We have not done any allergy tests before – should we try that?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I suggest you do the following tests:
Allergy testing.
PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
These tests help to find out whether asthma is controlled or not.
I advise you to do the following:
Use of newer inhalers like Vilanterol (fluticasone furoate) (long-acting beta agonists) and Glycopyrronium (anticholinergics).
Acebrophylline (bronchodilators) tablets are also useful.
Biologics like the injections Omalizumab (monoclonal antibodies) and Tezspire (Tezepelumab) (monoclonal antibodies) can be tried.
Kindly consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
