Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My mother, who is forty-five years old, has been showing odd behavior. Sometimes she says anything she wants. Sometimes, she talks well to someone, fights with them, accuses them, and occasionally abuses them illogically and without thinking. She yells and shouts in a high-pitched tone every time she starts fighting. It also appears like something has gotten into her at times. I believe she has lost her reasoning and logical abilities. She performs practically all of the housework and is quite religious.

It is the same as when I talk to her. Sometimes she misinterprets it and perceives it incorrectly. Even when we attempt to make her understand, she does not comprehend and resists blaming, abusing, or bringing up previous arguments. At times she speaks in an absurd manner Which was never the case before. She frequently accuses individuals of doing things they did not do or claims my possessions as hers.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Her symptoms like abnormal behavior, fighting over trivial issues, not understanding others' points, stubborn and rigid nature, violent, abusive behavior, rapid shifts in mood, etc., should be evaluated properly. Though to make a diagnosis, detailed history and evaluation are needed these symptoms appear to be occurring due to some mood disturbance, possibly bipolar disorder. I recommend that you take advice from a psychiatrist for her symptoms. With proper medicines, these symptoms can be controlled. Mood stabilizing drugs like Tablet.Sodium Valproate or Tablet. Lithium carbonate can help reduce her symptoms and improve her mood. I also suggest that you not delay the treatment and take proper advice.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Regards.
