Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a question about birth control. I was taking my birth control pill, and it got stuck to the gum I was chewing. I tried my best to remove it, but I ended up swallowing it with some gum still attached. Should I take another pill just to be safe?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I am very sorry about your medical condition, and I am glad that you are paying attention to changes in your body system. But do not worry, I am here to take care of you. Thanks for checking in. This is a common situation, and here is what you need to know:
If you swallow your birth control pill even with gum on it, you do not need to take another pill.
Here is why:
As long as you swallow the pill, even if it is stuck to gum, it will still be absorbed in your stomach.
The presence of gum will not block the absorption of the hormones in the pill.
Taking an extra pill could increase side effects like nausea, spotting, or hormone overload, so it is better not to.
So, what to do:
Just continue taking your pills as usual.
Mark today as "pill taken" in your tracker.
Only take a replacement pill if you spit it out.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
