Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have had some urinary symptoms for the past month, including penis pain during urination and incomplete bladder emptying. The doctor prescribed Tamsulosin and Solifenacin. I have been taking these medications for 22 days. At present, I have severe constipation and no feeling of a full bladder even if I drink more water.
Previously, when I drank one liter of water, I would urinate within one hour with a full bladder sensation and normal pressure while urinating. Now, I do not feel bladder fullness, and it takes several hours to clear my urine. What should I do now?
Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern regarding your urinary symptoms and the changes you have experienced since starting your medication.
It sounds like there has been a very frustrating change in the symptoms. Moving from the discomfort of incomplete bladder emptying to a loss of bladder sensation and severe constipation is a significant change, and it is important to understand why this may be happening.
To better understand the current situation, it is important to look at how Tamsulosin and Solifenacin work together.
Tamsulosin: This is an alpha-blocker. Its role is to relax the smooth muscles in the bladder neck and prostate, which usually makes it easier for urine to flow.
Solifenacin: This medicine helps reduce bladder spasms and calm an overactive bladder by blocking the signals that tell the bladder muscle to contract.
The symptoms being described, including severe constipation and reduced bladder fullness sensation, are known side effects of Solifenacin.
This may lead to urinary retention, meaning the bladder muscle may not contract with normal strength, causing delayed urination and difficulty fully emptying the bladder. This may explain why it is taking several hours to pass urine.
These symptoms require prompt medical review and possible adjustment of treatment. It is important to contact the prescribing doctor as soon as possible before stopping or changing any medication, as sudden changes without medical guidance may not be appropriate.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
