What causes a hard black pimple near the groin?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a hard black pimple near my left leg, close to my testicle (but not on it). It feels soft on the outside but hard inside, like a knot under the skin. I first noticed it two weeks ago. Two days ago, it was painful, but now there is no pain, even if I press or squeeze it. It does not have a visible opening.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Swelling in the groin area can have different causes and should be checked by a doctor, with an ultrasound helping to determine the exact issue. One possible cause is a sebaceous cyst, which occurs when a gland becomes blocked. Symptoms include redness, warmth, tenderness, swelling that increases over time, and sometimes a small black dot in the center. If the cyst is small and not causing any issues, monitoring it may be enough.
However, if it becomes uncomfortable, surgical removal might be necessary. If the cyst gets infected, leading to warmth, pain, or fever, a doctor may prescribe antibiotics like Augmentin 625 milligrams (Amoxiclav) (twice daily for five days) and Brufen 400 milligrams (once daily) (Amoxiclav) before considering removal. Another possible cause is lymph node swelling, which can occur due to infections such as urinary tract infections (UTIs). Additionally, folliculitis, an infected hair follicle, maybe the issue if the swelling is red, warm, and filled with pus. I would like to know if you have experienced any of these symptoms or have a history of injury in the area, such as from shaving, or if you have had a UTI.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
