Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 34-year-old woman and I started taking monthly birth control pills for the first time. I started taking the pill on the first day of my period. After six days of taking the pills, I had sex for the first time. Throughout the entire month, I have experienced brown patchy bleeding and also bleeding every day with varying intensity. On the second or third day of the placebo pills in the 21-day contraceptive pill pack, I experienced withdrawal bleeding. Due to the side effects of the pill, I decided to complete the 21-day pack and discontinue taking the pills. It has been four days since I finished the pack, and my bleeding (withdrawal bleeding) has not stopped. It fluctuates between normal and heavy flow, sometimes requiring a pad and other times a panty liner. Please let me know if this is normal and when I can expect the bleeding to stop. What steps should I take? Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern. I would like to inform you that this irregular bleeding may be due to hormonal imbalance. I suggest you take a tablet of Tranexamic acid 500 mg three times a day for three days. If the bleeding continues for more than five days, I suggest you undergo a pelvic ultrasound scan and follow up with the report. If the bleeding stops, no further action is required. I suggest you monitor your next cycle to assess any changes. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
