Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I just received the worst news of metastatic breast cancer. I am a mom of two little girls, and I am terrified. So I am worried, and I need your suggestion on the following -
How do I tell them? More importantly, how can I protect them from getting this in the future?
Is there anything I can do now to lower their risk? I am so scared of leaving them.
What kind of treatments can I expect?
Will I still be able to care for them during treatment? I am feeling so overwhelmed and guilty.
Do you have any advice on how to handle this as a family?
Please help me figure out how to fight this and stay there for my girls.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
A diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer is devastating, especially as a mother of two young children. When talking to your kids, be honest but age-appropriate, reassuring them that you are fighting this with all your strength and that they are loved and supported.
To help protect them in the future, encourage healthy habits like a balanced diet and regular exercise, and consider discussing genetic testing with your doctor if there is a family history of breast cancer.
Treatment options like chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and targeted therapies can help manage the disease, and many women continue to care for their families with support from loved ones, support groups, or professional services.
While this journey is overwhelming, seeking emotional help from a counselor or joining a cancer support network can make a big difference. Remember, you are not alone, and with the right resources and mindset, you can face this challenge and be there for your children.
Feel free to follow up with any specific questions.
Please let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with.
Thank you.
