Is it safe for individuals with RBBB to engage in exercise?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 24-year-old individual with a height of 66.14 inches and a weight of 141.09 pounds. I have been diagnosed with the RBBB. Previously, I have experienced severe heart palpitations and mild chest discomfort in the middle of my chest, which comes and goes.

I am wondering if it is safe for me, considering my RBBB, to participate in activities such as water slides and fast zip coasters as I am planning to go overseas soon. My past medical history includes a dermoid cyst on the ovary, vulvodynia, stomach adhesions, and ear grommets. Currently, I am taking Escitalopram 5 mg, and I have had ECG and 24-hour monitor tests done. Could you please advise if such activities are safe for me, given my medical condition?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

I am very sorry about your medical condition. Please know that I am here to support and take care of you. Regarding your concerns, it is important to avoid activities that could potentially trigger rapid heartbeat, as right bundle branch block (RBBB) is associated with irregular heart rates that may lead to heart failure. For your pain, I recommend taking a tablet of Propranolol 10 mg orally once daily for one month. Additionally, I suggest considering a biventricular pacemaker in the future if any irreversible symptoms arise from the RBBB. I hope this advice is helpful. Let us schedule another appointment for follow-up, whether it is through chat, phone, or video consultation.

I hope this information helps.

Thank you.
