Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I burnt my cheek with hot oil while cooking a few days ago. It is becoming red and the redness is not reducing. Is it a healthy healing process or will it leave a scar?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understood your concern.

I went through the images (the attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). I have gone through the details that you have provided and I have checked the image that has been provided from your end and I do understand you concern.

It appears to be a normal healing process. However, the possibility of them leaving a scar is high only in case the burn is deep. From the images although they look like a superficial burn. The possibility of them leaving an initial scar which may eventually heal to form normal skin is more.

However, in case the burn was deep where the superficial skin had completely peeled off, the chances of leaving a scar are there.

In order to understand the depth of the scar, I would highly recommend you consult a specialist in person to assess the condition.

Kindly follow the below prescription in order to let the burn heal faster.

I would also include a scar cream for future use which can be used only in case there are any scars which are left. Please make sure to use them only after 12 weeks of healing and not sooner as the scar can normally heal itself without any medication. This is only to be used in the healing and reducing the intensity of scarring.

My advice :

1. Use a burn gel on the affected area twice daily for four weeks.

2. Use Mupirocin (antibiotic) ointment to help prevent any secondary infections.

3. Use a good silicone gel only in case of scar formation. Do not use prior to 12 weeks of burn healing.

4. Make sure to avoid picking up blisters or touching of burn area too frequently unless you are applying the ointments mentioned.

5. Make sure to stay hydrated to help heal faster.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and regards.
