Hello doctor,
My grandmother is 88 years old and she is in a nursing home. They just called saying she has a Candida auris infection? She has been feverish for days, and now they want to move her to isolation! They mentioned it's "drug resistant," which sounds terrifying. Is this a superbug? Can it be treated? The facility's doctor barely explained anything except that it's "serious". Grandmother just recovered from hip surgery last month and was finally doing better. Could she die from this? Should we move her to a hospital? Is it contagious to us when we visit? The staff suddenly wears all these protective garments, which scares me. Please help us understand what's happening and what questions we should be asking.
