Cervical spine fusion, alias arthrodesis, is done to stabilize the neck and prevent fracture in the spinal cord due to instability after a trauma or injury. The fusion is done between the selected cervical bones in the neck with the help of bone from some other region, metal implants, or by removing the spinal disc to join the adjacent bones. Spinal stenosis, herniated disc, rheumatoid arthritis, infection, tumors, or spinal deformities are treated by cervical fusion.
