Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
As the mother of a 4-year-old, I am concerned about protecting my child from preventable diseases, especially when traveling. I have heard about the cholera vaccine, but I am unsure if it is recommended or mandatory for young children in certain regions. We are planning a family trip soon, and I want to ensure my child is adequately vaccinated. Could you please explain if the cholera vaccine is required or strongly advised for young children visiting other countries? What are the potential risks or side effects of this vaccine at my child's age? I want to make an informed decision about vaccinating for cholera before our trip.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the cholera vaccine for people at high risk of cholera, such as travelers to areas with active cholera transmission. However, it is not routinely recommended for children younger than five years.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
