How to manage asthma and anemia better?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 45-year-old female. I have asthma and am currently taking Foracort 200 mg. I have headaches, nausea, and vomiting nowadays. In cold weather, my feet become too cold. I also have anemia and am taking iron tablets. Why do I face this issue? Can this condition occur due to asthma or anemia? How to manage this asthma and anemia better? Can these cold feet occur due to any other health issue like hormonal imbalance? If it is so, how to manage it promptly?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

As you are suffering from bronchial asthma. The key to the treatment of asthma is the use of inhaled medications. For adequate asthma control, appropriate inhalers in the right dose are to be used with adequate technique, and they should be used regularly.

Investigations to be done on bronchial asthma, at the first visit and also to be repeated in case of uncontrolled symptoms:

1. Complete blood count.

2. Serum total IgE.

3. Chest X-ray.

4. Pulmonary function test (spirometry pre-and post-bronchodilator).

The following advice is to be followed in case you are suffering from bronchial asthma:

1. Continue using inhalers (MDI Foracort (200/6) two puffs twice daily with a spacer followed by mouthwash).

2. Mac spacer (it is to be attached to the inhaler; the technique of its usage can be learned online via videos).

3. Consult a pulmonologist either physically or virtually, if the symptoms are not controlled.

4. Take vaccinations appropriate for the age if not taken already.

5. If you have gastric reflux or acidity issues, you shall control them by using anti-reflux treatment; like the tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg 1 tablet daily 45 minutes before breakfast). Consult your doctor and take the medicines accordingly.

Nausea and vomiting are common side effects of iron tablets prescribed for anemia. Changing the formulation of iron can help you avoid nausea and vomiting (you can try Tablet Glyzifer NM 1 tablet twice daily; it is associated with fewer chances of nausea and vomiting). If severe vomiting is there, you can omit iron tablets for a few days and start thereafter.

Cold feet can be due to hormonal issues and are common if you have attained menopause. For this, you can consult a gynecologist.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
