Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 2.5-year-old son is a preterm baby. He has gone to playschool recently and catches cold often. Is it advisable to take vaccines for RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) as I heard this is the season for such infections? Is it advisable to be taken by all children or only those advised to take them? If so, what are the criteria to take? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. Attention to handwashing and cleaning of environmental surfaces are important to prevent RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) transmission. Nirsevimab is used for the prevention of RSV lower respiratory tract disease in newborns and infants entering or during their first RSV season and children up to 24 months old who remain vulnerable to severe RSV disease through their second RSV season. As your child is 2.5 years old and not falling at high risk like having cardiac problems or respiratory problems, general precautions are advised. Still, you can confirm with local authorities, as they are flexible with disease protocols according to the current situation.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.
