Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Please help.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

In the laboratory report, only MPV (mean platelet volume) is high and above the upper limit, and the rest of the CBC (complete blood count) parameters are normal. You have asked whether the elevated level could be due to a recent viral infection, and the answer is no. You do not have to worry about the increased value, as all other parameters are normal.

  1. How is your cold now?
  2. Are you taking any medication for it?

Kindly follow up if you have any further queries about it.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your answer.

What is the reason for the elevated MPV?

I already have hypothyroidism, PCOS, and insulin resistance.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for the follow-up.

Elevated MPV must always be interpreted within the context of other CBC results, such as platelet count. A high MPV means that your platelets are larger than average. This is sometimes a sign that you are producing too many platelets. Larger platelets are usually young and, more recently, released from the bone marrow.

Your platelet count is in the range, which means the bone marrow attempts to produce platelets to bring its number in the normal range, and this MPV would come to normal in a few days. The isolated elevation of MPV is not worrying at all and does not require further investigation to find its cause. This value will become normal in a few days, and there is no need to repeat the test in the future.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
