What could be the reason behind the small meat-like ball in the stool?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had a small red meat-like ball in my stool today. I have had fever symptoms the last couple of days and a low appetite. I have had a fever for the last two days. Yesterday I felt very heavy in my head. Also, I have been sweating a lot recently. The stool was not hard to pass, and I had no pain. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

I appreciate you signing up on icliniq.com.

Loss of appetite and fever cannot cause clot-like stool. It(attachments removed to protect patient identity) looks like a blood clot, which can be seen in stool due to various reasons like ulcers or piles in the anal canal. But again, if you have no pain and difficulty in passing stool, then do not worry; it can be indigestion of food particles from the last meal as well.

Sometimes such particles can be passed in stool. If you noticed this for the first time, then it could be indigestible material only. But if you have a history of bleeding or difficulties in passing stool, then we can think about piles (hemorrhoids) or ulcers. I suggest observing your stool for the next two to three days, and if you see anything like this again, please let us know. We can go for further investigations.

Please revert to my questions.

1. Do you have any symptoms currently?

2. Do you have a history of bleeding in the past or difficulty in passing stool?

3. Please let me know so I can help you accordingly

I hope this information helps provide some insight into your symptoms.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I have no history of blood in my stool. I have observed my stool to be quite normal. Sometimes it is hard to pass, but that is nothing that has not resolved on its own.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Hard stools occur due to a low-fiber diet. So I suggest you take a fiber-rich diet like green salad, green vegetables, papaya, oranges, and bananas. All these fruits are rich in fiber and will make the stool soft, and you will have no difficulty in passing stool. Drink adequate water as well.

If you still face difficulties in passing, then I would suggest you take:

Syrup Lactulose (laxative) 15 ml once a day before going to sleep (night) for 15 days. Consult your doctor and take the medicine accordingly.

I hope this information helps provide some insight into your symptoms.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you.
