Could persistent vaginal pain be related to vulvodynia?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Since my last menstrual cycle, I have been experiencing pain in a specific point inside my vagina, as if something is touching it from within. Despite examinations by my gynecologist, no issues were found except for a small, painless pea-sized cyst discovered during a visit to replace my multiload with Copper T. However, this pain started two months after the Copper T was installed.

Upon my gynecologist's request, I underwent a pelvic examination and sonography of the lower abdomen and pelvic area, both of which revealed everything to be normal. Recently, I consulted my general physician, who prescribed Chymoflam and CFuro 500. While these medications provide some relief while they are effective, the pain returns once their effects wear off. I have tried researching on my own and came across something called vulvodynia, but I am unsure.

If needed, I can attach my reports for your review. I urgently request your guidance on this matter.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

These symptoms do not suggest vulvodynia, as they present differently. I suggest you undergo a urine culture and sensitivity test, along with a vaginal swab test. In the meantime, you can try using vaginal pessaries for local relief. Also, try to divert your mind to other activities to differentiate it from pseudo-pain.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply,

I have got the test reports as guided by you. Please suggest strong medication as I am experiencing severe pain.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The report indicates no growth of specific pathogens, but bacteria are present in the urine. I would suggest some medications for this.

You can take the following medications:

  1. Tablet Nitrofurantoin 100 mg twice a day for five days.
  2. Tablet Flavoxate 200 mg twice a day for five days.
  3. Syrup Citralka (disodium hydrogen citrate) three times a day for three days.

Consult your specialist doctor, talk to them, and then take the medications as per their advice.

Looking forward to your response in order to help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Should I stop taking Tablet Chymoflam and Cfuro 500? Will these new medications help reduce the issue? I have to go out in the field for work for one month in four days.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can stop the previous medicines as advised by your treating doctor. You can start taking these new medications for better results.

Looking forward to your response in order to help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I would like to ask about the medicine prescribed by you. As of now I have been taking dosage that is 500 milligrams as lower dosage did never give results on me. The medicines are so prescribed by you are Nitrofurantoin 100 mg SR for five days, twice a day, tablet flavoxate 200 milligrams, two times a day for five days, syrup Citralka Liquid daily three times a day for three days.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read and understand your concern.

Different medicines have different doses. You cannot compare by 100/500/1000 milligrams. Some drugs can have high effect in 50 milligrams so take these medicines for five days.Looking forward to your response in order to help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have taken one dosage of the above medicine. But after the dosage is complete still there is similar pain but yes, it's comparatively better, I mean lower. Shall I continue medicine given by you for another 10 days? Nitrofurantoin 100 milligrams. Flavoxate 200 milligrams.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read and understand your concern.

I prescribed you those medicines for five days. Have you completed five days or only one day? You can complete 10 days if you have it completed even five days dosage. Then we will go for some tests if it would not give better results after 10 days.

Looking forward to your response in order to help you.

Thank you.
