Can aligners be used to correct large and crooked teeth?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have long and crooked teeth. My four front teeth are big and two of them are crossed. Can it be made straight and small by aligners?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The front four teeth which are large and protruding, can be managed using aligners. However, we have to consider all the teeth and then decide on the size of the teeth. Regarding alignment, yes, it is possible.

There will be a checkup initially to evaluate the whole mouth condition, followed by which, a round of cleaning is done and all the cavities are filled, if present. Once this is done, we can initiate the process of aligner evaluation. A digital scan is done, which records the dimensions and current positions of all the teeth. Along with the scan, radiographs and a couple of photos are taken which are then combined, evaluated and a treatment plan is made. If you are okay with the plan, we can go ahead with the aligner fabrication and if not, we can re-modify the plan as per your requirements.

Regarding the size, if the teeth are found big, we can plan for the intrusion of the upper teeth, meaning taking the teeth more into the bone and reducing the external size.

Hope this gives you a fair idea of how aligners work.

Feel free to reach out for further queries and suggestions.

Thank you.
