Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 23-year-old female with crowding in my lower anterior, a crossbite that extends to tooth number 12, rotated canines, and other conditions. Due to unforeseen stress two months ago, the root canal was deemed non-vital. I also have bruxism frequently. Oral findings include crowding and slight attrition in the mandibular anterior. What may the ideal therapeutic alternatives be? I even want you to take into account the expense element. Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I suggest you go for a clear aligner treatment.
Reasons:
1. Case of mild requirement. You do not have severe crowding and little spaces in the upper. Esthetically, you are okay with the current position of teeth for a while more. I would categorize it into minor requirements.
2. Attrition. We advise splints to treat bruxism and relieve the teeth from undue stress. Here, aligners will act as splints as well. So, along with alignment, bruxism treatment can also be done.
3. Time constraints: You need to travel overseas in the next six months. Aligners can provide you with the treatment in this time frame, provided proper planning is being done.
Alternatively, removable appliances like Beggs wrap-around or Hawley retainer with anterior bite plane can be used. This will align your teeth, and minor correction of bruxism might occur. Anterior bite plane will not allow the back teeth to touch each other entirely and may erupt more. This will indirectly prevent front teeth from touching unnecessarily. Why not fix braces? They require more time compared to the aligners to complete your case in due time. They cannot be removed, and certain restrictions will be implied during the treatment. Aligners are removable, and many limits do not apply here. Costing factors will vary with different modes of treatment, which you shall discuss with the doctor. Towards the end, you can opt for esthetic build-up for lower teeth. This would give a complete correction of your teeth and their conditions.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
