What is the growth on the corner of my eye?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am concerned because I have a growth on the corner of my eye that you can see when you pull my eyelid to the side. It has been there for a long time. I do not even remember the first time I noticed it. It is a pinkish color. It does not move with my eye so it does not seem like it is attached. I also have been getting a lot of floaters. It has been there for at least six to seven years.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The swelling that I can see in the photo of yours (attachment removed to protect patient identity) can be one of the two things. A swelling of the lacrimal gland. Dacryoadenitis and pleomorphic adenoma. It could also simply be fat that is normally present in our eyeball socket that is protruding out. Given that it has been there with you for seven years, tells me that it is a benign swelling. You will need to see a doctor about the swelling if. It starts to grow visibly. Pain, irritation or other symptoms start. Regarding the floaters, I suggest you see a doctor as soon as you can. They are suggestive of posterior segment disorders and will need to be examined after dilating your pupils.
