The areas within the corners of the mouth and the nose bridge comprise the face's danger triangle. A retrograde infection in that region may spread to the brain leading to serious complications like cavernous sinus thrombosis, brain abscess, and meningitis. This may be due to the connection between the facial vein and the cavernous sinus. Furuncles on the upper half of the face and nasal abscesses have a higher potential of spreading the infection to the brain.
