Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 20-year-old female. I am really scared right now. I got involved with someone a couple of weeks ago. We did not have sex, just a handjob and some dry humping. I was wearing very light underwear, but he was not. My period is a few days late, and I am worried.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
I understand why you are feeling anxious, but based on what you described, your chances of pregnancy are extremely low to nearly impossible. Pregnancy is unlikely in your case because sperm cannot travel through multiple layers of clothing effectively. You were wearing light underwear, but since there was no direct penetration and no confirmed ejaculation in your vaginal area, pregnancy is highly unlikely. Dry humping, even with light clothing, does not lead to pregnancy. For pregnancy to occur, semen must enter the vagina, which does not happen through fabric.
There are many reasons your period could be delayed besides pregnancy. Stress and anxiety can make your period late, as worrying about pregnancy can disrupt your cycle. Hormonal imbalances are common, and it is normal for some cycles to be longer or shorter than others. Changes in diet or exercise, such as eating less, exercising more, or experiencing sudden weight loss or gain, can also affect your cycle. If you have conditions like PCOS (polycystic ovarian disease) or thyroid issues and have had irregular periods before, this could be a factor as well. Additionally, recent illnesses or medications can delay ovulation and, therefore, your period.
There are a few things you can do now. Try to relax and wait a few more days if your period is just a little late; it might come soon. Natural remedies like warm drinks (such as ginger tea), light exercise, and reducing stress may help trigger your period. If you are anxious, you can take a pregnancy test for peace of mind, though your risk is very low. If your periods are often irregular, tracking your cycle can help identify patterns and give you a better understanding of what is normal for you. If your period is more than two weeks late or if you frequently experience irregular cycles, it is a good idea to see a doctor to rule out hormonal imbalances. For now, take a deep breath; you are very likely not pregnant. Would you like advice on managing period anxiety in the future?
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
