What are the methods of delaying periods?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am going away for the weekend, and I am terrified that I will get my period. I tried to trigger it by taking vitamin C, but it has been more than six days and nothing has happened, and I am scared that it will come over the weekend. What can I do to keep my menstruation from starting over the weekend? Please Help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Periods and ovulation are all hormonally controlled; there is nothing but hormones that can alter them, so no matter how much vitamin C you drink, you will not get periods. Even if it does, it may be incidental.
To postpone periods, we usually have to start the medications at least one week before the expected period. So to control it, we may have to take a higher dose of hormones.
Have tablet Norethisterone (5 mg) is also known as tablet Norlut-N, or tablet Aygestin (progesterone) three times a day until the day you want to postpone it. You may get periods two to seven days after stopping the pills. Just do not forget the pills in between; they can cause bleeding in between.
As it is a bit late, I cannot assure you completely, but there is no other pill better than this. As Side effects, You may experience the symptoms you usually get in the second half of your period, like mood swings, depression, bloating, and a breast-pricking sensation. This pill is the progesterone hormone, so it has the same effects. There were no other significant side effects. Bleeding following this may be thicker and darker in color.
I hope this helps.

Thank you.
