Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was involved in a protected sex 13 days before my periods. I had no sexual activity after that, but my periods were delayed for five days. What could be the possible reason? Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

The delay in the menstrual cycle may be due to infection of the urinary tract, pelvic inflammatory response, anemia, or thyroid problems.

I suggest you follow the below-mentioned instructions:

  1. Get a thyroid profile, Complete blood picture, and peripheral smear study.
  2. Get a urine routine culture test and pap smear of vaginal discharge for microbiology done.
  3. An ultrasound abdomen and pelvis can also help in diagnosing the underlying condition.
  4. Take antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and antihistamines along with douching of the vagina with an antiseptic solution and vaginal ointment for 5 days.
  5. You can go for induction agents if you do not want any tests and want to get your periods within 3 to 5 days.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take the medications with their consent.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
