Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
We accidentally gave our baby barley water and a small amount of water at six to seven weeks old. The barley water was mixed with the formula. Our baby also feeds on breast milk as well.
Will this have contributed to any malnourishment or other negative effects that may be permanent?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
As per limited information, if you have given a small amount that too once, it is not going to cause any problems, so do not worry; there is nothing like malnourishment associated with it.
Still, would you mind sharing the baby's birth weight and current weight?
Another thing is that at the age of six to seven weeks old, it is recommended to exclusively breastfeed. There is no need for any water or other things except vitamin D drops.
If it is a must for you to give formula feeds, try to give maximum breastfeeds and supplement with formula if needed.
Revert with the answer to assist further.
Thank you and take care.
Regards.
