How to manage drug allergy?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I just began injections of Estradiol Valerate (7.5mg IM(intramuscular) weekly). During my second week, I hit a blood vessel that caused some blood to squirt out from my left leg (not a dribble or ooze as I have had with previous injections). It did not hurt during the injection, but looking back, there was a weird resistance I had to push through. My left leg still hurts and is sore 10 days later. I did my third weekly injection in my right leg, and shortly after, I developed hives on my face, a low fever (99-100°F), brain fog, headaches, skin peeling on my palms, and muscle soreness, which have persisted for 3 days since the injection. I get some relief from the symptoms with Benadryl. This is frustrating because I have had nearly identical reactions to many different medications: Lamictal, Gabapentin, and Seroquel. Is there anything I can do about this? I feel like my ability to get medical treatment is being limited more and more by these reactions. I saw one person online say they had a reaction to the medication as an IM injection but did not have any symptoms when they switched to subcutaneous, and I am wondering if there is any basis for this that it would be worth trying.
Please help.
Thank you.
