What causes frizzy and curly hair?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 18 years old female. My hair used to be smooth and lovely when I was younger. But with time, I saw that it had become frizzy and wavy instead of smooth and straight. My hair is separated into portions, one of which is smooth and the other of which is curly and frizzy. I am not sure if it was harmed when I went through puberty or when I used a lot of gel while sleeping. I recently noticed that the hair I pulled out of each region of my frizzy hair was different from the hair I pulled out of my healthy, normal hair. The frizzy and curly ones lack the white bulb that the healthy ones have at the end, and occasionally the end of them has a black bulb. I have no idea what this indicates or how to get it right. Did I damage my hair?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query, and from what you have mentioned, it appears that you have damaged your hair either by using the wrong products excessively, excessive washing, excessive straightening or ironing your hair, or excessive blow drying. You must use an anti-frizz conditioner after your hair wash, use a hair mask once a week, try to dry your hair naturally, and detangle your hair after a bath using a wide-toothed comb or just your fingers. Do not towel dry your hair as well. Avoid using any harsh chemicals for coloring, etc.

I hope I have answered your question.
