Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 25 years old and have suffered from painful period cramps, sometimes starting up to a week before and ending after the first two days of my seven-day period. They tend to feel like they are using sharp nails to scrape my uterus, whilst the pain extends to my back and thighs. I generally do not have any appetite for the duration of the pain. Every month, the right side of my pelvis hurts more than the left. The pain started when I was eleven years old, about a year after I started having my period. The first day gets so bad that I cannot do anything, only lessening after sleeping and sweating the pain out. I have tried many things like exercise and always being hydrated, and it has not helped. Normal Paracetamol painkillers do not seem to even take the edge off the pain. Ibuprofen for periods seems to be the only thing that has been helping recently. I also tend to have a lot of clots for the majority of my period. Is this normal? Please assist.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I just read your query. I can understand your concern.
According to your description, you have moderate to severe dysmenorrhea and clots, and I would suggest doing a USG (ultrasound sonography) pelvis scan to rule out any fibroids or cysts, because there is some possibility of having these.
You should do regular exercise, including Kegel exercises, and also keep yourself hydrated. You can take Zerodol Spaz or Meftal Spaz (Mefenamic acid) tablets whenever needed.
I hope this information helps you.
Let me know if you have any other concerns.
Thank you.
Regards.
