Is another scan needed to confirm the presence of an embryo?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My LMP was a month ago, and my gestational age by LMP is 06 weeks, 06 days. EDD by LMP is after eight months. I have attached my scan reports for you to check. The treating doctor is telling me there is the absence of an embryo, and another scan should be performed in the next week to confirm. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

The scan is normal (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). In early pregnancy, the fetal pole is usually not visible, and a 1 to 2-week difference may occur as the last menstrual date and actual date of conception are different. So, repeat the scan after two weeks.

Take folic acid and calcium tablets daily. Keep yourself hydrated. Take at least 3 liters of water per day. Have more green leafy vegetables and fruits in your diet.

Hope this information helps you.

Feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
