Medical Conditions - External Ventricular Drainage

External ventricular drainage is a method to drain the Cerebrospinal fluid for a brief period. Using gravity, the catheter placed in the brain ventricle drains the fluid into the drainage system outside. The amount of fluid is proportional to the placement of the drip chamber. It is indicated to diminish the pressure created by excess CSF, remove the infected fluid, and treat infection by directly injecting antibiotics to draw blood after surgery or trauma.
