Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 36 years old with a height of six feet and a weight of around 176.37 pounds. I am facing fecal incontinence problems due to the use of medications for different diseases for a period of four to five years. Now sphincter muscles become very loose or weak and I can not control release of gas and poop. And this condition is getting worse day by day, even taking a Panadol tablet, fetal incontinence speeds as if it is allergic to medicines due to this disease, I can not visit anywhere, and always at home. I need medications or treatment to strengthen sphincter muscles so that I can control the passage of gas, etc, by myself. The duration of the problem is around three years.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Thank you for sharing your detailed concerns. It helps to understand what you are going through. Let us take a look at this together. From what you are describing, it sounds like you have fecal incontinence (accidental passing of stool and gas) that has gradually worsened over three years. It also seems to have developed after a lot of different medications for depression and gut issues, and you have stopped the medicines because they seemed to make things worse.
Here is what I would suggest you consider:
1. Understanding the cause:
Indeed, medications like antidepressants and gut motility drugs can sometimes affect how your digestive system and anal sphincter muscles work. But usually, the main factor is that your pelvic floor muscles (including the anal sphincter) have become weak. Depression and inactivity can also make this worse over time.
2. Key approach – Pelvic floor strengthening exercises:
These exercises are called Kegel exercises (yes, men can do them too). They can be very effective in tightening the sphincter and pelvic floor muscles, so you regain better control over gas and stools.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
