How to manage fever, cold, and red eyes in my 15-month-old?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a 15-month-old baby who has had a fever for the last four days. We have given medications: Gudcef CV 50, Crocin 120, and Levocetirizine. Now, she has no fever, but her eyes are red and swollen. I also feel she has a cold. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I completely understand your concern.

Based on the information provided, it is most likely due to viral upper respiratory infections or allergic conjunctival irritation, especially after a recent febrile illness.

Suppose there is no thick discharge; it is usually self-limiting. Cold symptoms (runny nose, mild cough, congestion) often persist for a few days even after the fever subsides.

  • Levocetirizine may help if there is an allergic component.

  • Crocin (Paracetamol) should only be continued if the baby develops a fever again or is uncomfortable.

  • Gudcef-CV (Cefpodoxime and Clavulanic acid) should be continued only if it was prescribed by a doctor, and the full course should be completed unless advised otherwise.

  • What you can do at home:

    • Use normal saline nasal drops twice or thrice daily to relieve congestion.

    • Gently clean the eyes with clean, lukewarm water if there is crusting.

    • Ensure adequate fluids and feeding.

If eye swelling or redness is increasing, or there is pus discharge, the baby develops fast breathing, chest retractions, wheezing, or difficulty feeding, fever returns, or the child becomes lethargic or irritable, please immediately consult a pediatrician.

I hope my answer is clear to you, and if you need any details at any time, I am here and at your service.

Thank you.
