How to manage recurring fever in children?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 7-year-old son is having a fever for the past two days. We have given tablets of Paracetamol and Amoxicillin but when the effect of medicines gets over like for seven to eight hours, then the fever comes again. I have attached the pictures of the medicines.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

We are happy to help you.

Please note that the tablet Amoxicillin and Potassium clavulanate (Augmentin) being used by you seems to be spoiled (a color change can be seen). This may be because the medicine might not have been kept in the refrigerator.

With regards to the fever, I suggest you do the following:

  1. If the temperature is 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more, you can give syrup Acetaminophen (Crocin DS-240 mg/ml) (5 ml taken as required) every four to six hours.
  2. If the temperature is 102 degrees Fahrenheit or more, you can give syrup Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen (Ibugesic Plus) (6 ml taken as required) every six to eight hours.
  3. If the temperature stays above 100 degrees Fahrenheit for more than three days or if the temperature crosses 103 degrees Fahrenheit, it is advisable to get evaluated physically by a pediatrician with possible blood investigations based on the physical examination.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you want some help.

Thank you for your trust in me.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Please check the attached reports.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As per the reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), there is definitely some bacterial infection. Please get the child physically re-evaluated. Till then, give the tablet Amoxicillin and Potassium clavulanate (Augmentin) as mentioned previously.

I hope you had a pleasant experience at iCliniq.

Thank you.
