Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My friend is 30 years old and has been dealing with gastritis for the past three months. He often has trouble eating because of it. I am looking for ways to manage his gastritis. Are there any soothing medications he can take? Also, are there any home remedies that can help with gastritis quickly? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for reaching out, and I understand your concern.

I suggest some home remedies for managing gastritis (inflammation or irritation of the stomach lining):

  1. Probiotics: Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that can improve digestive health by eliminating harmful bacteria. They help regulate bowel movements and can inhibit the growth of H. pylori (Helicobacter pylori) bacteria, a common cause of gastritis. Yogurt is a good source of probiotics.

  2. Essential oils: While not strongly supported by medical evidence, some essential oils may help with gastritis. Oils like lemon verbena and lemongrass can reduce the impact of H. pylori bacteria. Ginger, peppermint, and clove oils may improve digestion. These oils should be used externally and diluted with carrier oils such as coconut, olive, or jojoba oil.

  3. Apple cider vinegar: Apple cider vinegar can reduce excess stomach acid and help restore balance. It may also kill harmful bacteria in the stomach. Adding a bit of honey to the vinegar can further soothe the stomach lining.

  4. Coconut water: Drinking coconut water can help soothe the stomach.

  5. Aloe vera: Aloe vera juice can also help calm the stomach and reduce irritation.

Investigations to be done include:

(1) CBC (complete blood count).

(2) LFT (liver function test).

(3) USG (ultrasonography) whole abdomen to rule out underlying issues.

I hope this helps.

Please revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.

When to Seek Urgent Medical Care

Some symptoms associated with stomach problems require immediate emergency care — do not wait for a scheduled appointment. Seek emergency medical care immediately if you: vomit blood or material that looks like coffee grounds; pass black, tarry, or maroon stools; experience sudden, severe abdominal pain; feel faint or lose consciousness; or notice symptoms worsening rapidly rather than improving. These may indicate serious conditions such as a bleeding ulcer that require urgent evaluation.

This information is based on general medical guidance. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice; consult a qualified clinician.

Always consult a doctor before taking medication; self-medication carries serious health risks. Take exact prescribed doses, and never start, change, or stop treatment without medical supervision.
