Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 6-year-old has had a low-grade temperature of 100 to 100.3 Fahrenheit for the last 36 hours. She also had extremely watery diarrhea and was going to the toilet three to four times an hour during wakeful times. Last night she also began to vomit repeatedly. The vomit smells awful and smells just like her diarrhea. She has no appetite, and what she does eat, comes right back out. Doctor has advised Zofran and Phenergan, but I am becoming more concerned as time passes. She has abdominal pain below her belly button. Should I take her to urgent care or wait until the clinic opens?
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.
This seems to be a case of acute gastroenteritis, which is leading to fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. The medicines given are to the best of my knowledge, but I suggest an oral rehydration solution 250 ml with the passage of each loose stool to keep the child well hydrated. As long as the child is not lethargic and dehydrated, you do not need to worry. For abdominal pain, you can give syrup Colicaid (Simethicone) or syrup Cyclopam 5 ml (Dicyclomine and Simethicone) SOS (taken as required). Consult a specialist doctor and take these medicines with their consent.
I hope this information will help you.
Thank you.
