Can toothbrush trauma treatment heal my gum pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

The gum surrounding my wisdom tooth region is aching, and the left inner side of my mouth is swollen. I do not have wisdom teeth, but the region around them hurts.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Pain in this area might be due to gingival inflammation caused by incorrect brushing technique, forceful brushing, or damage due to sharp food, caries in the last molar, which could lead to pulpal infection or inflammation around a partially erupted wisdom tooth.

So you must take a periapical X-ray of the final molars, which is a tiny X-ray that targets only the region of interest. In the meantime, you may maintain proper dental hygiene by brushing twice daily using a medium-bristle toothbrush, along with using Chlorhexidine mouthwash twice daily after brushing. Therefore, please try to take an X-ray as soon as possible for further assistance.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Regards.
